2008 - New Start, New Challenges, New Expectations

Once again, another year has passed. Welcome 2008 where I can expect new challenges, new expectations and a new start. Hope all goes well for me this year. Another moment of inspiration below. Happy New Year to all! :)

I Rather

I rather you don’t see
I rather you don’t listen
I rather you don’t smile
I rather you don’t reply

I rather you don’t care about me
Than to hurt me
I rather I don’t care about you
Than to silently do

I rather words to be so direct
Than to read between the lines
I rather I can have eight legs
Than to get stuck in a web of lies

I rather to be slaying demons
Than to be fighting them within
I rather wield King Arthur’s Excalibur
Than to yield to Aphrodite’s charms

I rather not to be blind
So that I can see the signs
But at the end of it all
All I can do is to breathe a sigh

The irony of it all
Is meant for you to see
Thank you
I Thank you
But I rather

Story Time: Part 4

Feb 14th 2006, Mike was 23 then. He was 2nd year student at the local university. He was not really active in the school activities but this year was different. He had to take part in some activities in order to earn points for him to stay in the hostel. If he did not have enough points, he will be kicked out of his hostel. Reluctantly, his hall mates and he organized this year’s orientation program. ‘Come on, Mike, don’t pull such a long face, there will be lots of hot girls coming this year’ exclaimed one of his hall mate. On the day of the orientation, the usual ice breakers games started the program off. As the day goes on, Mike was involved in a game that tests the stability of the hand and balance. He had to walk with 1 foot tied together with a freshie while balancing a spoon with an egg on it. He had to walk 10 meters and place the egg unbroken into a bowl. As he was only 1 meter away from the target, he heard a voice. It sounded like Tim. The second of hesitation made him trip over his partner’s leg and caused both of them to fall. The girl fell on top of him and the egg got squashed in between them. It became a major embarrassment for them at that moment in time. Quickly they got up and went to wash up. Moments later, they met on the corridor of the hostel. ‘Hey I am real sorry for that slip up’, Mike apologized profusely. The freshie replied, ‘Its okay, it was just an accident but it was real fun, don’t you think? By the way, I am Laura. You are?’

It is strange that sometimes love is really at first sight. Mike had never seen such a sweet girl smiling at him. Laura liked the look of silliness on that boy’s face. Soon enough, they were always hanging out together in school, doing tutorials together, having lunch or simply chit chatting. Their affection for one another soon developed into something much deeper and just 2 months later, they were seen holding hands in school. Mike likes to give Laura little gifts and notes to make sure she knows he is thinking of her and missing her every single day. Laura really likes the attention being showered on her by Mike. If only her parents could do that. Their love grew deeper day after day and soon, late nights out together is very normal to them. When their parents asked, they just answered that they are having extra classes in school and doing projects and stuffs. Their parents did not suspect anything at all initially as they knew the tough life of being an undergrad.

As the months goes by, they spent almost their entire free time together. The honeymoon period of their relationship was really simple and sweet. However, they began to neglect their studies. The 1st term examinations came and went. Mike flunked 2 out of his 5 subjects and felt sad. His parents were disappointed in him. They were afraid Mike had not gotten over Tim’s unfortunate incident and somehow it affected him. Laura, being a gifted child, had no problems with the 1st year exams and got 4A+ but unfortunately, got a B+ for an elective subject. Her parents were mad, real mad. B+ is considered a bad result and they chided Laura for that. Laura cried and sat down and thought about it, ‘Are results that important? Why can’t they show me the care and concern Mike gave me?’ After drying her tears, Laura looked into the mirror. Her face was covered in blood. She smiled and wiped away the blood from the razors and went to wash up and bandaged her wrist.

Story Time: Part 3

Feb 14th 2005. It was a rainy afternoon. Mike and Tim met up to have lunch as they always do every other day. There are times when Mike does not see Tim that often, but when they do, they talk like long lost friends. Although Tim did not make it to university, he eventually signed on to the Air Force hoping to be a pilot one day. His dream was to fly around the world. After lunch, they were heading to their favourite cinema for a movie. As it was a rainy day and they did not have any umbrella, they waited at a shelter for the green man at a cross junction. When it came, they dashed across the road. To the horror of many people around the junction, a car did not managed to stop in time and was heading straight at Mike as he was dashing across the road. A hand pushed Mike away in the nick of time. The last thing Mike heard was a loud boom before he lost consciousness.

When Mike woke up, he was surrounded by his mum and dad as well as a few of his relatives. He felt his leg bandaged up but it feel alright. His parents told him that his was only slightly injured on his left leg as he was pushed away from the car just in time. Mike was worried. He asked, ‘Where is Tim? Is he okay, did he save me?’ He was getting real worried. His parents and relatives whispered among themselves. After a few minutes, his dad told him firmly, ‘Tim saved you and he got hit by the car instead and was killed instantly.’ Mike was devastated by the news of the death of his best friend. He started to weep uncontrollably. He knew he was the cause of Tim’s death though his parents keep reminding him that it was just an accident and no one wanted that to happen either.

One fine day, Laura opened her drawer and took out a cute little jewellery box. She opened it and smiled to herself. ‘What should she use today?’ she though to herself. She peeked into the box. Inside were pieces of razor, sharp pencil leads, needles and a bottle of antiseptic lotion. She looked at her arm and saw some scars on it. She decided to let them heal a bit more before playing with the items again. Her parents were out working as usual, but not before handing her a hectic schedule of the day. Normally, Laura would dread seeing that schedule. However, recently, she accepted the schedule with a smile on her face and even bid farewell to her parents, wishing them to have a nice day at work. She had been behaving like this ever since she found a new hobby.

Suddenly, she thought of a new idea. She went to the fridge, filled up a big bowl with ice, and immersed her hands into it. She felt good, real good. First the coldness, then the numbness, and finally to a certain extend, frostbite. You know when ice stick to your hand, its painful to remove. To Laura, the feeling was pure joy. After a good 20 minutes of that, she slowly removed the ice that was stuck to her hand. A bit of flesh was torn off, but Laura couldn’t care less. She washed up, applied some antiseptic lotion and continued with her hectic schedule for the day. Her parents did not know of her new found hobbies and the hobbies was what kept Laura sane from that demanding schedule. She managed to enroll in the university after coming out in the top 10% of the college cohort as expected by many. She got into the same course as Mike. The only difference is that Mike was already a 2nd year student and Laura was a still a freshie. They first met on orientation day.

Soul Behind The Face
Music: Rudolf SchenkerLyrics: Klaus Meine

Would you care for me if I was deaf and blind
Would you hear my voice if I was always quiet
Would you hold my hand if I was going to fall
Would you cry for me would you know my name at all

Would you be there if I was on the ground
Would you be my friend if no one was around
Would you hold me close if I was in the cold
Would you pray for me would you know my name at all

Would you care would you be there
For the soul behind the face
Would you love me for what I am

Would you care would you be there
For the soul behind the face
Would you love me for what I am

Would you care would you be there
For the soul behind the face
Would you love me for what I am

Would you care would you be there
For the soul behind the face
Would you love me for what I am
Would you love me for what I am

Story Time: Part 2

Feb 14th 1990, Mike was seven years old then. He was a bubbly boy whom everyone loved. Whenever he visited his relatives, he would greet them very politely and gave them his biggest smile. The smile alone will melt many hearts. It was also when he was seven, he got to know a boy name Tim. Tim was a shy boy and rarely speaks. One fine day, as Mike was returning home from school, he saw Tim alone at the playground. He knew they were from the same school and he felt a special affinity to Tim the very moment he saw him. He approached Tim and offered to play with him. As it was the case for many children, the ice was broken very quickly and within minutes, they were playing the swings and merry go round in the playground. When it was time to go home, Mike bided Tim goodbye. Strangely enough, Tim left without a word. For the next one week, Mike did not see Tim in school. He wondered why but was too busy with his own studies to care.

It was after a week that Mike saw more of Tim in school and around his neighbourhood. He approached Tim again and asked him what happened to him. Tim replied saying he was sick but was well again. ‘Let’s go play!’ exclaimed Tim with a big smile on his face. From that day onwards, Mike became very good friends with Tim and their friendship would last for the many years to come. Tim would usually come to Mike’s place to chat with him but would often do that when Mike’s parents are out. They spoke about many things. However, when Mike asked Tim about his family and stuff like that, Tim would always reply saying ‘please do not ask me that, I don’t really wish to speak about my background, I hope you can understand. If the time is right to let you know, I will ok?’ Being a sensible boy, Mike understood and did not probe further. Both of them grew up and went to the same secondary school and after to poly. Mike made it through to university but Tim did not. However they are still very good buddies after all these years. Well, good things don’t last and what happened in 2005 when they were 22 years of age and with a bright future ahead of them changed Mike’s life forever.

Feb 14th 1990, Laura was a bright six year old girl. She was identified having a high IQ at an early age and was placed in a special program to develop her gift. Her parents were very proud of her and she is the envy of her many relatives. Laura spoke fluently for a six year old and can play the piano really well at such a tender age. As she grew up and became more sensible to the world around her, she realized that actually, having a gift is not a very good thing after all. Every day, she mixes with people having the same gift as her and they do not really communicate well with one another. It was like everyone is trying to outdo one another to be the best in class. She do not have any time to socialize and make new friends as her daily schedule was jammed packed with activities and she hardly have time even to watch the TV or go shopping like most other teenagers. Although she was used to this dreaded routine everyday, a part of her still yearned to be just like a normal teenager, go on shopping trips with friends, chatting on the phone, watching TV and go on dates etc.

When Laura was 15, she began to feel depressed over her life and cruel schedule. She felt like her mind was going to explode and she really wanted to escape, to free herself from the world. However, she was afraid that her parents would be worried and she herself would feel guilty if she ran away. She virtually became a slave to her punishing schedule and every morning, she felt like she was a robot, repeating her routine of activities over and over again. One day, while cutting an apple, she accidentally cut herself. She did not feel the pain as the blood oozes out from her finger. Instead she seemed to like it. Her mum saw her smiling to herself watching the blood flows and rushed to bandage it for her and scolded her for being so careless. Laura turned a deaf ear to the scolding because she already had something in mind, something fun!

Story Time: Part 1

Don’t say things which you don’t mean
“Dear, I love you forever too,” whispered Laura into Mike’s ears. They were both alone in Mike’s apartment on February 14th, 2007. Valentine's Day as most people will know.

Valentine’s Day on the 14th of February is a day of romance for all the loving couples around the world. How it became a day of romance was not clear because Valentine’s day is actually a day to remember St Valentine. It was on this day which he died. (Further history on this man will not be elaborated). It was also on this day where the prices of roses rose up to exorbitant prices and many V-day gifts packages appearing in almost every shopping mall. These gifts and roses are what you will see every other day in the malls if you have been observant enough and not only observant enough to spot them on V-day itself. However it was only on V-day itself or near V-day that people rushed to buy them as if they had never seen all the roses, teddy bears, mugs, key chains etc in their lives. ( a mug with his and her name printed on it romantic? Oh come on, you can do this almost every other day, you can even have your entire bed sheet printed with his and her photographs nowadays.)

Mike is one such ‘romantic’ person, and thankfully (at least to himself), his girlfriend of slightly more than 1 year, Laura, is a sucker for such romantic gifts too. A simple gift by Mike of a keychain made up of the letters L-A-U-R-A would drive Laura mad with happiness cause it was from her darling Mike. And that was what Mike got for Laura for their 1st month anniversary of their relationship. And throughout their one year relationship, little gifts are part and parcel of their lives. And alas, keeping little secrets are also part and parcel of their lives too.
(To be continued....)

Just a random post of no particular reason

No reasons for this post. I remembered I wrote something a few months ago. It may be some lyrics or even a poem. Depends on what you want it to be. It is really not easy to write a song. Someone once told me it is actually easier to write a tune than lyrics. But there are people who writes songs for fun. haha.Wanted to write about my childhood neighbourhood which no longer exist but it turns out to be some sad words. I guess its easy to write sad things.

No Longer There

I woke up one morning
To the sound of passing cars
I looked out the window
And see the same old faces
Happy as they seemed
I felt something missing within

Looking back at the years
That we spent together
Was it just a dream
Or a plastic reality
I tried to shake off that feeling
And lay myself down to sleep again

You’re no longer there
I thought I got it right,
But when I open my eyes,
the memories fade into the night

It was you who started the fight
It was I who want to hold on tight
But no matter how hard I tried
I was unable to keep you by my side
That kind of toxicated feeling
Is killing me inside

You’re no longer there
I thought I got it right,
But when I open my eyes,
the memories fade into the night

That torturous feeling
Is making me sick
I tried to stand up
Only to end up falling again

You’re no longer there
I thought I got it right,
But when I open my eyes,
the memories fade into the night

Back to SG, surprisingly cold weather these few days!

It had been a week since I came back from Genting and I must say that it was a wonderful experience. However, I hardly feel that I am in SG now. Why? Because the weather this week is GOOD! Everyday it has been raining and the nights are super cooling. That should be the temperature every night. Even better will be at this temperature everyday without the rain.

Speaking about my trip to Genting, it was really fun. It started with a long jam at AYE to 2nd link from 8am on a Thursday morning. In the end it took us 7 and a half hours to reach the First World Hotel. Upon reaching, it was another 20mins wait for our room keys. My friend and I got our keys finally and went up to our room. 16th floor and its the first room we see once out of the elevator. I slotted in the card and went in. The room was very small but I find it good enough anyway. As I walked in, I saw some clothes neatly hanged on a bar. Hmm.. not bad, they still provide clothes for us to change after bath maybe. As I walked on, I felt something amiss. How come there is a bra hanging as well? haha. My friend and I was wondering and then we saw bags on the table. I walked into the toilet and saw more clothes and undergarments. 'Oh my God!' I exclaimed. The previous woman has not checked out yet!! We got out of the room and went to the reception to request for a change of room. Well at least there is a good and bad thing to greet us on our arrival. Good thing being we got a dulexe room when we change the room. It was slightly bigger than the normal room. Shiok! Bad thing, we did not get to see free show when we barged into the first room. Period. =P

After unpacking, we rested for a good 10mins before going down to meet the rest of the collegues and their spouses for dinner. 1st stop: Kenny Rogers. Its cheap compared to Singapore as the prices are in ringgit. However, lesson learnt: DO NOT EVER EAT AT KENNY ROGERS in GENTING. Their chicken (or chick I would say) is so small that I can barely see their quarter chicken. Moreover, their side dish serving is super small also. It is definitely not worth it. After dinner at around 5pm, we had a free and easy walk around the indoor park cum shopping. Bought some DVDs (original) and went back to the hotel. We met again at 830pm for a magic show called the FLY. To be fair, it was a decent show. However some of the magic tricks leave very much to be desired as they are being performed against a totally black background. Not very convincing I would say. The acrobats in the same show seems nicer to watch.

After the show, its obvious where we went. Late at night, most shops closed, amusement park closed, yet we feel as though we have tons of energy. Yeah, CASINO here we come. We went to the smaller casino at First World and the first thing we did was to go to the drinks counter to get free drinks. If you want to save money, you can always pop in for free drinks. haha. Walked around a bit and signed up for the casino card. Started with 10RM on 2cents slot machine and played. Within 10mins, I struck a small jackpot. Won RM44. As my friend don't play and keep asking me not to stay too late, I cashed out and left. That covers the cost of the DVDs I bought totally. haha. After that we takeaway MaryBrown Chicken and had supper in the room. Lights out.

2nd day started with a free breakfast at the First World cookhouse. Luckily it was not very crowded when we arrived. The food is ok if you are not too choosy, at least to me. :) After breakfast, we went to buy tickets for the outdoor theme park and the start of our theme park day. Tried the cockscrew and Go Kart initially. Fun. But my Go Kart is so damn slow that my friend, who started way behind me, caught up with me in the 1st lap and I never see him again. I am hitting full acceleration mind you. I even have the time to take out my digital cam and took a video of myself driving because it is too damn slow. Tried a few other rides but to my utmost dissapointment, the ride that I wanted most was under maintenance. Crap! How can they do it on a Fri? Can't they do it on a Mon Tues Wed or Thurs? I do not know what the ride is called, but it is the one where they send you up to a great height and drop you down in 1 swift motion. Many have left their hearts up there and did not managed to get it back I heard. hahaha. In the afternoon, I took a ride where you sit on a chair and it swings you 360 degrees and quite fast. After that, I totally felt nauesous along with a few of my collegues. Do not know why also. Went back to the room and nap for an hour after that. Then at 330pm, we went to watch a 4D show. It was the most horrible 4D show ever with outdated graphics, poor effects and bad storyline. (Ali Baba) After that show to forget, we went to challenge the amusement park again. Tried the superman ride and we were laughing all the way. My sadness and worries left me for momentarily there. Thereafter, we took a monorail ride that circles the whole amusement park. Took a good 25mins and I almost fell asleep in there. Dinner was MaryBrown again and taken away for consumption in our room. My friend was MaryBrown addicted. haha Well at least you don't find MaryBrown in Singapore was the only consolation that I can think of for him. At night, my friend and I walked all the way to the Genting hotel where the big casino is. That was a crowded place as well. Went in and lost 20Rm quite fast after trying various slot machines. Walked around and see the table games and tried the slot machines for 1 last time. Found a machine near the entrance at a corner. My lucky machine haha. Within 40mins I played, strucked 2 small and 1 medium jack pot!! Small being 10RM and medium being 20RM. That almost cover my losses eariler. In the end I still lost 4RM but overall winnings for 2 days stands at 40RM. Better than nothing. Back to room and watched the boring TV till I cannot stand it and went to sleep.

Saturday morning was a sleep in. Slept till 11am. Woke up and prepared to check out at 1230pm. Had a very expensive 'cai fan', 4 dishes and rice, with a bottle of mineral water. 23RM. haha. Bus came at 230pm and we left after that, taking along with me lots of fun memories and leaving some sadness and worries behind.

August is approaching and I look forward to any challenges that comes my way. I shall perservere to the very end. 'Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breaths away.' Till I got the motivation to write again. Next up, chalet at Sentosa next weekend and already looking forward to it =)

Escaping the warm SG weather

It had been very warm for the past week or so, even at night. The air is warm and there seems to be no wind at all. I tahan from last week till yesterday night, but finally I gave up. I switched on the air con at 12am last night. haha

Another thing I noticed is that the MRTs in the morning are more packed than usual nowadays. I realised that the timings are actually quite long at peak hours and are not spaced out properly. Yesterday, I had to wait for the 3rd train to come before boarding. Its like at ard 820am at Bukit Batok station. Its obviously a peak hour! And when I reached the platform, time for train to arrive = 5 MINS! I was surprised. You know how many people can gather on the platform on a peak hour in 5 MINS?? When the train comes, it was already quite crowded and the people squeezed in. I am not even close. When the train moves off, as usual, the crowd at the center of the carriages is quite spaced out, whereas 90% of the crowd is squeezed at the door (a bit 夸张 but think you will get my point) The next train goes straight to Pasir Ris arrived in 3 mins. I thought I could get in somehow, but the 1001 people behind me had the same idea too. haha I stopped and stood at the side watching the 1001 people squeeze in a space meant for 101. Finally the 3rd train arrived in another 3 mins which is slightly less crowded and I managed to board, but still have to squeeze a bit.

When the train reaches Jurong East MRT, we have to alight to change train. As much as I dislike those who do not move to the center of the train, those who rushed in the moment the door opened without allowing those poor souls to alight first and those who pretend to be asleep while seeing people who need the seats more than they do, there is another cateogory of people I dislike. That is those who already have a seat and when they reach their destination, they want to be the first to get out also! Especially in a crowded train, for example at Jurong East, all will have to go out. Those happily sitting will suddenly stand up and force their way through the crowd. They want to be the first to get out and be the first to board the next train. Why can't they wait for all those poor souls like me standing all the way to alight first? If only they would give up their seats to the needy as fast and as readily.

Back to the title, I am going GENTING this coming Thursday to Saturday! I have not been there for donkey years! The last actual time I was there, the amusement park was not even built yet. 3-4 years ago, I was in KL with my friends. We actually took a cable car up Genting for a good 3 hours, solely for casino only! All I saw was cable car, casino and cab back down to KL. All in 3 hours, like in Ocean's 13, the heist is done in 3 mins. Its a company sponsored trip and I am going with a friend along with some of my collegues with their spouses and some other staff from Aviva. I really look forward to it and its a nice break after the hetic months. First, the weather should be super nice compared to the warm SG weather. I am going to enjoy the weather there. Secondly, the casino. This is only the 2nd time I've been in a casino and though I know that chances of winning is not very high, I still want to try. Last but not least, I am going to fully enjoy myself and leave all my frustrations and worries at the back of my head. It is the last thing I would want to remember in Genting. Hope to take nice pictures too and I would post them in Friendster when I am back :)

A happy news at least for me, my all time favorite band, the SCORPIONS (refer to my 1st blog entry) are planning to come to Singapore (as well as Korea, India, Japan, Jarkata, KL) as part of their Humanity Asia Tour somewhere in Oct/Nov. I thought I was dreaming when I first saw the news in their offical website. Though nothing is finalised yet, I really hope they will come. They have been around for 30 plus years and they have been to Singapore for concert only twice! Once is 1995 I think and once in 2001. I went for the concert in 2001 ALONE and I regretted one thing. Not that I went alone, but to save a bit of money, I bought the 2nd most expensive ticket. I ended up quite at the front, but at a corner! This time I am going to book my tickets early and get the most expensive ticket, no matter how much it cost! (a word of caution though: the most expensive tickets may not be the best seat afterall, be sure to check the seating arrangments when you book any concerts) But then again, as not many of my friends I know actually like the Scorpions or even heard of them, I may have to go alone again. But its really a rare treat and if I have to go alone, I will go alone. Anyone wants to go with me? haha They have been in Asia now and then, but I am not too crazy yet to even KL just to catch them in concert.

Till I come back from Genting, please take good care of yourself and do not fall sick. Remember to treat the people around you nicely and respect the elderly. The time is always right to do the right thing.
Cheers, Benny

Hectic Week

Finally its the weekend again. This brings to an end a hetic week at work for me. Due to the ongoing project at work, everyone has been very busy for the past weeks and it will get worse in the coming weeks. Hope everyone can stay sane and work together to achieve what is required.

Come think of it, I have been watching many movies for the past few month or so, from Pirates 3 to the latest Die Hard 4. I must say Die Hard 4 is very nice and for those who wants good action movies, this is the show to watch, though I really cannot rem what happened in Die Hard 1-3 haha. With all these blockbusters aside, a movie left a good impression on me. It is not the usual blockbuster affair, no stunning visual, no special effects, just simple acting and a good story. 13: Games of Death, a Thai movie.

I have personally not watched many Thai shows. However, I realised that they are actually good. One very fine example will be that of the show 'SHUTTER'. A fine production, good scares, good storyline and a wonderful ending that will catch many off guard. I watched the show 13: Games of Death with Celeste last Saturday. It is only showing at Cathay cinemas. We both enjoyed the show although the ending leaves you to wonder and think. This show is about a man named Puchit, who was just sacked from his sales job. His collegue has poached his regular customer away and when asked why by Puchit, he gave a curt answer 'You are too slow'. Armed with loads of debts and frustrations and in the midst of coming to terms with his immediate sacking, his received a phone call that will change his life forever.

The caller seemed to know everything about him, even his sacking which he himself just knew minutes ago! The caller introduced him to join a game, where he can win 100 million baht if he complete 13 challenges. After all the inital suspicions and hestitaion, he decided to play the 1st game, that is hitting a fly with a stack of newspaper. He successfully did it and got 10,000 baht immediately transferred to his account. It is easy to guess how the rest of the challenges progresses. However, there is a catch. The game will end if: you quit, if someone knows you are playing this game and if you fail to complete a challenge. Either way, all the money will be forfeited. As he got sucked into this exciting but deadly game, he wonders if he is still human afterall. This show ends with a good twist, what if actually many people are playing this game at the same time?

Well that's all I want to say about this show. Please do watch it if you are interested. After watching this show, it sets me thinking. Will I play such a game in desperate times? Will you? What happens to us if we are driven to the edge, with no one around to help us? Money is the root of all evils. Will we do anything to get it? This is just for self reflection. 錢不是萬能的, 但沒錢萬萬不能!Can money buy happiness? Yes and No. However, I hope everyone can be happy with or without lots of money, especially my loved ones. Learn to forgive and forget, be a filial son/daugther and be kind to people always. I am still learning all these and I am glad someone had given me a foundation to build on. We are always learning and as the saying goes, ' Learn as if you are going to live forever, Live as if you are going to die tomorrow'.

1 week into July and so far so good for me. Busy with work, but still finding time to meet up with some friends. Having a JC class outing tonight. It had been a long long time since I last saw them. Though the turn out is not very good, nevertheless, it still takes much effort for those who can make it to be part of this simple outing. Hope we can catch up and have a nice dinner. I hope I am able to find my happiness in times to come and also to live a good life. Remember, anything worth doing, is worth doing extremely well.

My 1st Blog

Finally I have decided to start a friendster blog :) Been thinking about it for some time and was lazy to do it. As they say, procrastination is the thief of time.
I have been listening to lots of different kinds of music for the past few weeks, they nv fail to lift my spirits. Through music, it can touch your heart. It can serve as an encouragment when the times are bad or you can simply listen to them for relaxation. My brother finally got the new Scorpions CD from Hong Kong for me! (its a 2 discs edition with a bonus DVD, in SG, they only sell the 1 disc edition =_=!!!)

Talking about the Scorpions, they are my all time favorite band. They have been around for more than 30 years and I know the tune to most of their songs to date. Their hit song 'Wind of Change' is one of the few songs I can remember all the lyrics by heart and sing. "take me to the magic of the moment on a glory night, where the children of tomorrow share their dreams, with you and me" I can listen to it over and over again and I would not feel sick of it.

Talking about their new album, it has a mature content and I fell in love with it immediately. I have been listening to it every single day from the day I laid my hands on it 2 weeks ago. Its titled 'Humanity, Hour I'. This is an album with a global theme. The reasons why I love the Scorpions so much is because their songs can really touch your heart, their lyrics are so meaningful and encouraging and their tune is catchy and you will remember it after listening to a couple of times. Their rock ballads are simply awesome! Quality guitar riffs, strong and heart wrenching lyrics, solid guitar solos, complete with a voice that will melt one's heart by the ever green Klaus Meine, their lead singer. Powerful vocals yet seldom attempting to strain his 'metallic' vocals.

The concept for the new album came about by the thought of the future, where the world is torn apart by a civil war btw humans and robots. (reminds me of Transformers, haha just watched it today, its good) This apocalyptic nightmare serves as a warning shot to all mankind, and our only hope of survival is to reclaim our humanity, thus the title 'Humanity, Hour I' We are all living in this particular time 'HOUR I'. One of the songs 'The future never dies' is a solid rock ballad. We should always remember that the past is over, do not dwell on the past especially on the bad memories or experiences, though its hard sometimes, we got to try our best. The future is still very much alive and its up to us how we want our future to turn out. =)

The main song 'Humanity' is very nice as well. Just by listening to the guitar intro, I fell in love with song alone. All other songs in this albums are nice also for example 'we were born to fly', 'love is war' and 'the cross' just to name a few. All the songs fits to the theme very well. It was worth a full 3 years wait for their full length album, their last being in 2004.

This seems like a post to promote Scorpions. haha yes to a certain extent. (scorpions songs playing in the background now) It is really wonderful to have music in our lives. It had certainly helped me lift my spirits a little. If you do not have the habit of listening to music, take 10 mins out of your busy days, sit down, and immerse yourself in some quality music. You can start by listening to the Scorpions 'Wind of Change' :)
